Writing something on the following issue has been on my mind since a long time. Especially after the fashion of the ‘I am Anna Hazare’ caps all around. Today I finally got a chance, when one of my very good friends asked me a question, "How come you are not supporting ‘Anna’ movement?"
Of course, I am against corruption, but I don't agree with respected Anna Hazare's methods.
Plus, I would like everyone supporting him to look at themselves once, make sure that we are not a part of corrupt/uncivilized/undisciplined India and then go and shout against the Government. I believe it has to be both ways, a pressure on the Government but at the same time a change in every individual. Small things like, paying bribe after breaking a traffic law or for getting something done faster, getting license without actually giving a driving test, paying more for getting better treatment, avoiding fake rental receipts or any other such things for saving taxes, etc.
Also, I don't want the Lokpal committe to become a higher level of governing body which has more control than the Government and which doesn't guarantee non-corruption in itself. We have Government for the same, we choose it. We need to make a right choice and before making a choice there is a requirement. We need to VOTE! I want to know how many people supporting Anna Hazare have voted in the previous elections since they are eligible. I would like a honest answer.
I think I have my own ways. I try to do things that are possible at my level. I try to be corrupt free at all times. I try to persuade people around me to go and vote. Needless to say I myself go and vote even if I am not in the same city.
That being said, I am not supporting any political party, definitely not the current ruling Government. But, if we want things to change, WE need to change too. Stop giving, the takers have to bow down to you eventually. It isn't going to happen in a day, but that's how revolutions are. They take effect only after a certain period of time.
That being said, I am happy if things are going to work out as expected if the Lokpall Bill gets passed. I respect the efforts by respected Anna Hazare and all his supporters. I also respect their views and opinions and wouldn’t want to argue on those.
But no, I am NOT Anna Hazare..!

ReplyDeleteSure, agree with you. I am also not Anna, but I want the Jan Lokpal bill to be passed. If you haven't please read the bill in its entirety as there are provisions and powers given to Supreme court to take action against corrupt lokpal and its officers (and many more checks and balances too). I am not saying that Jan Lokpal is a perfect bill and it will remove corruption completely, but definitely this bill is an excellent starting point. And with time amendments need to be make as and when situation demands. RTI has given us a tool to expose corruption, and now we need something by which corrupts can be penalized and funds recovered.
ReplyDeleteAlso I do not agree that in order to participate in this movement you need to be as clean as Anna. By definition anyone who has given or taken bribe are corrupt. And if I go by this standards, then nobody should by a car or two-wheeler as you may not directly bribe the RTO but the agency through which you take the vehicle has a fixed monthly quota for RTO, so by buying that vehicle you have indirectly paid bribe to get an RC issued which you are any way supposed to get after providing all proper documents required by law.
"Hum Badlenge, Yug Badlega", does not mean that there is no need for strong law. Also having a strong law does not need that you do not need to change yourself.

There is something about the whole Anna movement that is unique. I like the fact that people are coming together, there is momentum and there is the "feeling" of participating in the democracy. But lets get one thing clear - the in the democracy people should direct the AGENDA of the government, legistlation or law-making is a clear task for the government. If the public is to draft a bill, why do we need to elect? Let a leader arise for every instance, and we will have bills created.
ReplyDeleteYou are bang on target when you say that the bill is NOT going to change anything by itself. Hence as i said, these support rallies and candle lights that have gotten us together are merely the "feeling" of participating in democracy and not really participating in it..!
Having said that I have immense respect for Anna and what he has done for his village and his intentions seem to be genuine. The problem I have is if he is making it look to simplistic and setting a precedent. As much as I like that he has got the ruling party close being on their knees, I am not happy to see that the very procedures of law-making, that is the essence of any democracy, is vulnerable, if not meek.
Sigh... Jai Ho..
Think Once,
ReplyDelete1. Can you please explain what are the methods which you feel that can stop atleast minimize the Corruption.
2. Yes, they are looking at them not once every time when they see the Lokpal movement videos in the news
Ex : How many Celebrities(Movie Artists, Politicians) are supporting Lokpal ? They are not because they are scared or they are feeling guilt, either of the things are fine to feel Shame
3. When You are witnessing that Government it self is corrupt( you take latest Scams) Why You dont want another Supreme Power Which can Restrict of being Corrupt. Here comparing with Casting Once own Vote is Not at all valid Point .....
4. Will a True Voting alone Stop this Corruption? can you justify?
5. Great to hear that you are mostly Corrupt Free, But What stops you to support when group of people of same mentality are raising their voice for the same cause?
6. Its clear that You are going and telling the people to vote, but when people are telling to raise your voice against corruption you are not listening, May be the same case might of happened to the List of People to whom you told to VOTE for the right person.
This is not an Argue, Just to make you Clear Just your Hands on your Heart and think ...
